Series Overview
A four-part series (three online sessions and one in-person session) covering everything a small business needs to navigate today's digital world: social media, AI tools, online reputation management, influencer partnerships, employee and customer protection, and how your business appears in search engines and AI-generated results.
The series concludes with a hands-on workshop where participants can apply what they've learned.
Format: 4 sessions, 1 hour each

Class 1: Your Digital Landscape, Social Media & AI Tools Tues., Sept 29 – 12-1pm An introduction to today's digital landscape, including viral culture, digital footprints, and why every business is now a public-facing brand. Participants will also learn where AI fits in as one tool among many and how to use it responsibly. What's Covered : - Welcome & Today's Digital Landscape -Viral culture, digital footprints, and why every business, not just those operating online, is now a public-facing brand. -Where AI Actually Helps Built-in platform AI tools (Canva, Instagram/Meta AI captions, Google Business AI replies) versus external tools (ChatGPT, Midjourney and other image generators, scheduling assistants), including the strengths and best uses of each. -Using AI Responsibly When to use AI and when not to; affordable non-AI alternatives; disclosure and authenticity considerations; and writing effective prompts to produce better results more efficiently. -AI-Generated Scams & Deepfakes Fake reviews, cloned voices and videos, phishing attempts that sound convincing, and business impersonation. -Protecting Your Brand & Q&A Watermarking content, verifying business listings, monitoring for impersonation, and identifying one practical action participants can implement immediately. Scenario Discussion: -Your AI-generated flyer receives public criticism. What do you do? Sample Prompts to Try : Social Media Caption "Write three short Instagram captions for [describe your post/photo]. Use a friendly tone and include one relevant hashtag set for a small business in Hawaiʻi." Review Response "Write a polite, brief response to this customer review: [paste review]. Thank them, address their concern, and avoid excessive apologizing." Content Calendar "Create a two-week social media posting plan for a [type of business]. Include one post idea per day, balancing promotional, behind-the-scenes, and community-focused content." Graphics "Create a simple flyer-style image for [event/sale] using warm colors and clean space for a headline and date. Do not include photorealistic people." Rule of Thumb: The more specific your prompt is about audience, tone, length, and what to avoid, the less editing and back-and-forth will be required
